Winterdrops

Yup, so I'm on vacation, and I feel like going outside. So I did, and while there I took some pictures! About 600 or so, actually, and I ended up keeping those below. I took that many because it turns out that it's really hard to capture the precise moment when a drop of water falling from an icicle impacts the surface of water in a puddle... Anyway, I got my grades back today (good news, don't worry), and I'm about to head to the hospital to shadow Dr. Hoye in the Emergency Room. I've been sick lately, but I'm feeling much better today. I don't have to start working again until Monday - HOORAY! Get in touch if you want more info!

Christmas Tree!

So, we got this Christmas tree last weekend, and it's pretty great. Here are some timed exposures (2s) of the tree with the only light source being the Christmas lights on the tree. Enjoy!

Streamlined - Pixelpipe

Well, I discovered how to streamline my pictures, straight from iPhoto! It's pretty sweet - website's called Pixelpipe, if you're interested. You upload there, then it automatically posts straight to your blog. The internet is amazing...

Hooray for unintentionally early Christmas presents!

I got a Christmas present early! Nicole accidentally left it out on the laundry table in the basement from when she was wrapping gifts! So, when I went down there to wrap gifts, I found it. I tried to be respectful, and just covered it up, but then I told her where it was so she wouldn't think she'd lost it, and I just got to have it early! It's an awesome album by artist Rise Against. Well, I think it's awesome, though it's on the harder side, so she doesn't necessarily agree :). I have a wonderful wife though, so she got it for me anyway!

I'm now on vacation from work! That's right - it's the 17th of December right now, and I don't have to be back at work until the 27th. Since one of those days is a freebie (due to our government's recognition of my savior's birth - or at least that's how I'll think of it), I'm only actually taking four days off!

Here's the lowdown for the next several days: tonight is a movie night, Naiya's got a new bed (which she loves), I'm going to eat a great snack, I had TWO prime rib dinners at work today because my shift overlapped the meals from both first and second shifts, I'm going to sleep in tomorrow, then sew some killer corn bags with Nicole's sewing machine, perhaps go for a run, finish reading The Gathering Storm (for the second (third?) time) in preparation for the next book in the Wheel of Time series, probably watch some Lie to Me on Netflix, sleep, destress, take pictures of Naiya, go snowboarding, think about studying for the MCAT (though I probably won't ACTUALLY study), hang out with my friend Josh (possibly while snowboarding!), make scrambled/fried eggs, bacon and pancakes, listen to music while looking out the window, and generally enjoy life.

I'll see most of you that read this as Nicole and I make our rounds during Christmas weekend, and I'm greatly looking forward to that as well. Thanks to those of you that care enough to read! Every time I get a comment, it's a great encouragement to see that people are curiously looking in through this online portal into my life. I apologize for not updating very often, and for the fact that most of the time, those updates are not the most informative... I'm still getting better at figuring out what's fun / interesting to read on posts like these... I also need to get a more streamlined way to put photos on here.

OK, that's it for now! Well, almost. Please keep us in your prayers, as we've been having a lot of discussions about our long-term future. Pray for wisdom, that we don't try to plan too much or too little, and that we'll both trust God and be satisfied (and willing to go) where he leads us. Thanks!

Just text today

Crazy week this past, with not much sleeping along the way. Yesterday was very full - did a lot of pickup around the yard, cleaned the basement, got my iPod replaced in Kentwood for FREE b/c the screen had gone bad, got a new laptop battery because the old one is failing and I don't want to be stuck without portable computing just before exam time, learned how to use the sewing machine and fixed the holes in three of my four pairs of jeans (I like them even better now - they feel more... "me" now that they're fixed up! Not as junky as before, but not OVERLY pristine), cleaned the fireplace, and studied late into the night. Today was good. Thanksgiving potluck at church, which included some great fellowship with friends, then back to the house for some quality time with Nicole. She just left for work, and I'm about to get some studying done before heading to the hospital to volunteer in the ED. I have one exam this week, tomorrow morning in Cells & Genetics. It'll be mostly over genetics, with a fair bunch of DNA transcription and mRNA translation into peptides thrown in. I keep thinking that I'm not sure how I'll do, and then I start thinking that this close to Thanksgiving (and this late in the work/school semester) I don't really care, but then I think about what this grade could mean in the eyes of med school admissions officers, and I keep trying hard. Sure will be nice to have a break for Thanksgiving though!

Snowboarding - Old Video

Here's a video of me on my very first day snowboarding ever. This was from back before I owned my own gear, and I had the video on YouTube already, so I figured I'd post it...

Took some photos of Naiya and random things out in the yard today. Below is a slideshow of some of the interesting ones...

Shopping

I am going to start a video blog. Occasionally, I'll get out my flip video and record something on it, then when I get a chance I'll post it on here. This is largely because, as I am now working full-time on second shift, am in class or lab 12 hours each week, volunteer in the Emergency Room 4-5 hours per week, and study about 15-20 hours each week, I don't have much time to email stuff. So, I'll be doing this. It might be a true video blog sometimes, or it might just be a snippet of my day, as is shown in this video from back on October 19th. Enjoy, and feel free to comment. That might just encourage me to keep this sort of thing up through medical school...
